Lahore: An attempt to digitise urban land records in the province has been undertaken by the Punjab government in collaboration with the World Bank.
The Punjab Urban Land System Enhancement Project (PULSE), according to sources, intends to update the antiquated land records system by facilitating quick and simple access to complete land information.
Over 90% of the province’s rural land records have now been digitally converted, thanks to work done by the Punjab Board of Revenue and the World Bank.
Currently, digitising the urban land records is the main priority. This entails performing GIS mapping on all of Punjab’s lands and creating digitally signed maps.
A consultative workshop was held by PULSE to go over the project and how it would be carried out, and it was presided over by PLRA DG Saira Umar.
Asim Saleem, the project director, and Faizan-ul-Hasan, the project coordinator, together with representatives from pertinent government agencies, development organisations, top real estate developers, and NGOs, attended the workshop.
There are currently plans in place to fully computerise land records and maps, and the pilot project has already started.
In her remarks at the workshop, PLRA DG Saira Umar emphasised the absence of certification and uniformity in the majority of the province’s urban regions’ land records.
